It's abscess weather - are you prepared?Because of the changeable weather we are having loads of people visiting the shop because their lovely horses and ponies are lame with abscesses, poor little things. Even though horses generally present absolutely hopping lame, an abscess is usually fairly easily treated, thank goodness.
So you don't have to delay treatment we recommend you keep a couple of key items in your First Aid Kit (hopefully you have a First Aid Kit.....) so you don't have that moment of panic. Horses like to test our patience and usually need treating at random times of the day when the saddleries are closed! We recommend a packet of Animalintex poultice and a couple of vetrap bandages are lurking in your kit somewhere. It's also useful to have a roll of silver "Duck Tape" - we don't sell this, but it's only about £5 from your local hardware store. Then your horse can still go out in the field wearing his or her little poultice. PS if you want a really easy way of putting on the "Duck Tape" let me know - someoue showed me a great way the other day - zero faffing and very quick - very useful if your horse is dancing around on three legs....... |
